How to file a medical claim after a car accident
Getting into a car accident is stressful, you are going through a tough ordeal and you can easily forget the steps to do when you do get into an accident. We are here to help!
Here is a list of things to do after you get into an accident to file a claim whether it be with your insurance or otherwise.
Open a Claim
The first step to open a claim is to speak with your insurance company. Tell them that you have been in a car accident and would like to open a claim. While speaking with your insurance also check to see if your plan has Personal Injury Protection (PIP for short). This is important. If you were injured in your accident your personal injury protection is going to help get you the care you need. While speaking with your claims manager (also called an “Adjuster”) ask them for their name, best number to contact them by and your claim number. All of that information is going to be incredibly useful during your care after your accident. After a claim is opened with Personal Injury Protection, you can see a wide array of providers to help you get on the road to recovery.
No Personal Injury Protection?
If you were able to open a claim and find that you have no Personal Injury Protection, do not panic. There are other ways to help make sure you get the care that you need. At this point you have a claim open but you do not have anything covering your health costs. The best advice is to hire an attorney, they will guide you through the entire process. Most attorneys are even able to refer to a Doctor that is going to help you. If you are unable to hire an attorney, and do not have personal injury protection. Look to using your private health insurance to cover the costs of you health bills.
